Baby fashion is a silly notion. But man, are we suckers for little ones in trendy togs. To get a head start on the next crop of it looks, we asked the folks at Melijoe to bring us up to speed on the latest styles for chilly weather.
‘60’s Chic. Expect lots of sixties’ retro cuts for little girls: Peter Pan collars, tweeds, and macramé lace. Tartine et Chocolat has a darling macramé-trimmed frock ($134), while Little Marc Jacob is showing a collared track suit ($140). We’re also loving Petit Bateau’s striped dress with a Peter Pan collar ($95).
Fair Isle. Little boys will be cozying up in colorful chunky sweaters like Catamini’s hooded cardi ($99) and 3 Pommes’ shawl-collared cardigan ($51). Melijoe is all about color-blocked style, too, like Paul Smith Junior’s cotton and cashmere knit ($129). We found a less pricey color-blocked look ($19.90) at Zara.
Tartan. Right-angled, criss-crossed colorful tartans are going to be big this year. Look for dresses like this classic woolen cloth one from Dolce & Gabbana ($299) or edgier looks like Junior Gaultier’s long-sleeved jersey t-shirt with a mock tartan tie ($60). For sporty style, we like Appaman’s flannel shirt ($53).
Military Chic and Colored Camo. Camouflage is sticking around, whether in traditional hues like this long-sleeved tee from 3 Pommes ($32) or injected with a shot of color, as with Lily Gaufrette’s lavender jersey skirt ($80). Gap’s lined pull-on pants ($26.95) and double-knit henley ($22.95) also nail the look, as does this blue-hued print shell jacket from Polarn O. Pyret ($129).
Animal Kingdom. Critter-inspired accessories continue to dominate. Check out Catamini’s hat with cat ears ($30) and Stella McCartney Kids’ bunny-eared hood ($57) and little mouse gloves ($51). We think this recycled wool helmet with ears from Mini Rodini ($56) is pretty cute, too.
