We’re only one day into summer, and most of us are still scrambling to complete our kids’ hot-weather wardrobes. But in the children’s clothing industry, buyers and shop owners already have their minds on fall. For a sneak peek at what moms will be snatching up a few months from now, we asked LilSwanky.com founder Emily Hornstein to tell us about the new labels she’s stocking for fall.

LilSwanky stocks not only the hot brands on the market, but also smaller and emerging brands from around the US and Europe. Shopping for Fall 2010 was very exciting—I came across some new and unique brands that I am thrilled to offer my customers.

There’s something very authentic about Los Angeles-based Blu Pony Vintage. It offers a classic and handmade collection inspired by the 1920’s. I love how well-made and perfect the details are; the pieces look like they could have been knitted by a grandmother and I love that nostalgic feel.

Last season, I started carrying a boys’ line called Fore! Axel & Hudson. They design some great golf-inspired, preppy looks. For fall, I picked up some fedoras, newsboy caps, and cardigans. Many of my customers tell me it’s hard to find good collections for boys and when I saw this I knew it was going to be a big seller.

I recently came across Magnificent Baby, and will be carrying it for fall. The unique characteristic about Magnificent Baby is that their infant clothes fasten with magnets rather than snaps or buttons. A unique and creative solution to one of the hardest parts of raising an infant: putting on clothing!

Another California brand that I know will be a crowd pleaser is Joah Love, a ‘peasant-y’, progressive and bohemian collection featuring lots of ruffles and burnout tees. For fall we have some great stripe combinations and comfy and cool bottoms for girls and boys.

Out of Amsterdam is a fun collection for boys called Scotch & Soda Shrunk. The details are top-notch and their clothing exemplifies terrific construction. They have such smart and witty statement tees; for fall there are some creative two-in-one pieces that we are really excited about—so check back soon!
