No one has a better sense of back-to-school trends than the children’s wear designers themselves. So we asked some of our favorites what they’re buying for their own tots this fall.

Stacey Bendet, alice + olivia
“For fall, I am loving leather jackets and splatter paint jeans—also sexy dresses with open backs or bustier bodices! I can’t wait for my daughter Eloise to fit into the cute party dresses from our alice + olivia kids line.” MUST-HAVE BRANDS: imps&elfs  and Album di Famiglia.

Janie Schoenborn, Lilly Pulitzer
“Tiki, my 5-year-old, is destined to be a fashion stylist. I’m convinced that one day I will be working for HER!” MUST-HAVES FOR TIKI: Leggings in every color imaginable and pink Vans. “Sabrina, my 7-year old, is very sporty and destined to be a tennis pro.” MUST-HAVES FOR SABRINA: Bright pink Pumas and the Minnie Marcella Dress from Lilly Pulitzer in deep cyan. MUST-HAVES FOR BOTH: Lilly Pulitzer Harvest Cardigans, Patagonia’s Yellow Slickers, and Crewcuts’ flower headbands.

Adrienne Catrina, Neige
“My daughter is extremely sensitive to comfort, so I love clothes that are an easy fit, like our Daryl Sweater Coat and Neige Jeans, which are made in a very light weight denim, so they feel like a trouser. MUST-HAVES: Glug Screen Print Tees for my son, Neige Cotton Ribbed Tights for my daughter, and Converse Chuck Taylors (low tops) for both— always a staple, always cool.

Carolina Zapf, Baby CZ
MUST-HAVES: Appaman Bulldog Tee, Chuck Taylor All Stars, wine-colored Mary Janes by Sonnet, and Baby CZ’s Cashmere Zip Hoodie, Cashmere Ruffle Cap, Reversible Vest, and Rugby Scarf.

Shoshanna Gruss, Shoshanna Baby Girl
“Papo d’Anjo is adorable, and Baby Gap has great basics.” MUST-HAVES: Coats from Papo d’Anjo (coming soon), and Shoshanna’s Matching Mother-Daughter Swimsuit set for warm Fall days at the beach.

Lynn Husum, Appaman
“Having girls is always fun when it comes to back-to-school. There’s this anticipation for the coming year that gets me excited and brings me back to shopping with my mom.”  MUST-HAVES: Appaman’s Kitten T-Shirt layered with our Cotton Cardigan; the new Hazel Kids collection, and Cotton Caboodle basics.
“When putting together an outfit for my nephew, without question I will go for Appaman’s new Avone collection tees paired with a Puffy Vest and the very comfortable and always a hit: Slalom Sweats.

Lucy Sykes Rellie, Lucy Sykes New York
MUST-HAVES: Ralph Lauren Slim Cut Jeans (boys),
jersey PJ’s from The White Company (boys and girls),
Rag & Bone’s cashmere scarf and waistcoat (boys), and Little Marc boys’ suits.

Caroline Cameron, OX Kids
“Here are few of my favorite things that I like to give my niece and goddaughter . . . plus a few items that I think are just beautiful and genius.”

MUST-HAVES: Baby CZ Reversible Vest, an easy transition piece before the weather gets too cold; Bonpoint coats; OX Kids Smitten (everyone loves the button-back mitten design that saves moms from searching for the one lost mitten); and the Lucy Cardigan (coming soon), which has the prettiest little stand-up ruffle collar—so pretty on a baby girl without being too precious.

Maureen Chianese and Jennifer Friese, Noko Baby
“For a Japanese flair, we love buying HAKKA kids clothes. Our favorite style: the short skirts with sewn-in leggings—perfect for school, park or playdates.

MUST HAVES: Michael Kors “Apple” Ballet Flats in silver, Pinc Skinny Corduroy Jeans, and our Noko Headbands (coming soon).

Sophie Demenge, Oeuf
“I love this French brand called Soeur. The great thing about Soeur is that kids still look kids, and moms can squeeze into their size ‘large.’”  MUST-HAVES: Oeuf knits, J.Crew basics for boys, and Bonpoint—a no-brainer.

Emily Meyer, Tea Collection
“Clement has got to have Tea Collection’s Omotesando Plaid Cargo pants this fall—the oversized details (pockets and buttons) have great attitude with style.  He’ll wear them with any of our delicious, slim-fitting Purity tees or the Birch Little Citizens Hoodie.  And for cool afternoons on the beach, I like the bright blue hoodie from Free City in Malibu . . . and some Addias shoes. OTHER MUST-HAVE: Lucky Wang Graphic Tees
