“Green” baby showers have officially replaced diaper cakes as the trendlet du jour. And that’s a good thing (on many levels). But to be perfectly honest, too much eco-friendly this and naturally that can be oppressive. So we asked our “sexy, sustainable style” experts over at Ecofabulous for some ideas on how to incorporate touches of Green into a shower without making it feel like part of a Greenpeace campaign.

To set the tone, order letterpress invitations on bamboo paper from Smock (gorgeous!), or choose an invitation from Tiny Prints with a recycled-paper option (there are tons of them; just look for the recycle symbol).

Encourage the mom-to-be to register for gifts at an eco-chic baby boutique like NewBornMom or pure and little.

Try to decorate with items that double as party favors, rather than disposable one-use items. Beau-coup has a lot of eco-friendly favors that would serve as cute party decorations. We love the Mini Lucky Bamboo Plants and the personalized Plantable Seed Favors, which can be customized with the baby’s due date.

Set the table with sustainable flatware and serving pieces. Plum Party has a great selection of eco-friendly supplies, from bamboo trays to corn-based compostable straws. Also, Baby Bunch makes great centerpieces out of organic cotton layette essentials (onesies, socks, bibs).

Serve up hors d’oeuvre and desserts made with ingredients from O Organics, available at Safeway and Vons. (Or at the very least serve their Blood Orange Italian Soda.)

Send guests home with a beautiful Kobo soy candle (pick a color to complement the party décor) or a bottle of Priti organic nail polish.
