What’s In Store

Babies ‘R’ Us debuts its new look in Union Square

Stocking up on diapers, wipes and other baby essentials isn’t exactly our idea of a fun shopping excursion. It’s all about quick, in-and-out.  So it helps when the vast, one-stop baby emporiums are well organized and well staffed (rarely the case). To that end, Babies ‘R’ Us just unveiled its new Union Square flagship—after a six-month makeover. The result? A less cramped, easier-to-navigate store that no longer bottlenecks at checkout.

Highlights include a larger stroller area organized by brand, an expanded “R Market” (baby detergent, organic baby food, eco-friendly cleaning products), and dedicated brand boutiques (Hatley,  LittleMissMatched, Bunnies By The Bay). There’s still a wide selection of basic apparel for boys and girls, and now there are cool brands like Hooray! By Cynthia Rowley, as well as licensed rocker tees featuring artists like Aerosmith, Blondie, KISS, and Madonna.

We also appreciate the wider aides, the addition of personal shoppers,  and a more efficient checkout process—including a register on the third floor so you no longer have to haul your goods downstairs. But the real kicker is the truly fantastic Toys ‘R’ Us branded toy section, including every Thomas Train you could ever want, Melissa and Doug puzzles, and Steiff plushies.
