If The Denim Fits

If The Denim Fits

Denim snobs have been all about Japanese denim for quite a while now. (Something about natural indigo dyes, selvage edges, and old-school shuttle looms.) All you really need to know is, it looks better, feels softer, and lasts longer—and apparently once you go Japanese, you'll never go back.

Now a new label, Tom & Drew, says it's one of the first companies in America to make kids jeans out of Japanese denim. “In the U.S., it is rare for a kids' apparel line to utilize Japanese denim, when margin is King,” says New York designer Alexia Panza, who launched the company—named after her two nephews—late last year. “It lasts a third longer. It’s complex, but fewer fiber ends are exposed, so there is less pilling,” she says. Durability aside, we dig the extra pockets for toy trains, cars rocks, or candy.

Tom & Drew jeans (pictured here on Pax Jolie Pitt, of course) will be available in select Neiman Marcus stores this spring. For now, you need to special order them at meg@tomanddrewboys.com; $95 for sizes 2T-10
