A cool new ice skating spot
Taking the kids ice skating always sounds like such a fun idea. Until you arrive at Bryant Park or Wollman and see the lines. So we were pretty psyched to check out the new rink outside the Meatpacking District’s Standard hotel—we had heard it’s much less crowded. And guess what? It is.
We arrived last weekend, mid-afternoon, and were creeping our way around the rink within five minutes. It’s pretty small—just 3,000 square feet—but there’s plenty of room to work on your jumps, and the vibe is all about laid-back family time. DJs spin 80s and 90s tracks, the staff sports custom black Roxy snowsuits, and there’s a great après-skate menu that includes grilled cheese with tomato soup and hot dogs with fries. There’s also hot chocolate (white or dark) with crushed peppermint candy, marshmallows, and if you need it, a shot of espresso.
The rink is open from 10am to midnight, seven days a week, until the first week of March
