On Again, Off Again

Flexible, drop-in classes for tots

There are only so many back-to-back play dates you can schedule during the gaps between school and camp and your summer vacation plans. So we dig the idea of drop-in classes that don’t require a summer semester commitment. Here are some wonderfully flexible options for those days when you’ve just got to find something for them to do.

Super Soccer Stars sells class packs (3 for $110 or 10 for $335) for their outdoor sessions in Manhattan (Central Park, Murray Hill, downtown), Brooklyn, Hoboken, Queens, Westchester, and the Hamptons. Ages 2 and up; kids who can separate may be dropped off. Book online at supersoccerstars.com.

Call Let’s Dress Up (345 E. 85th St; 212.879.0956) to get their weekly open play date schedule, or to reserve your own time. They throw the ultimate tea party, complete with costumes, play makeup, art projects and story time—all set to Disney princess tunes. There are also costumes for boys, and kids that separate can be dropped off.

Chelsea Piers sells flexible class packs (5 for $205, 10 for $380, or 20 for $625) for its My Buddy and Me Camp program, for toddlers ages 17-36 months. Tots do gymnastics, rock climbing, art, and music, with a grownup. The program runs through August 26th. Call to register, at 212.336.6520.

NY Kids Club in Brooklyn Heights (182 Henry Street) offers a 10-pass Summer Fun Pack ($380) for kids ages 3 and up. It can be used toward a variety of afternoon drop-in classes including cooking, paint and glue, hip hop, and gymnastics. You can buy a class online or by calling 718.228.0800; reserving in advance is suggested.

Three Little Birds (266 E. 78th St.; 212.744.0404 ) hosts music classes for babies 4.5 months and up ($48 walk-in, or $43 with a reservation). Morning classes fill quickly, so reserve well in advance or try for the afternoon. Class packs are 5 for $100, 15 for $240, or 25 for $320). There’s also a downstairs play space filled with eco-friendly toys; $25 for open play. Check the schedule at tlbmusic.com.

Brooklyn’s PLAY (33 Nassau Ave., Greenpoint) offers $25 drop-in art classes for babies (12-24 months) and toddlers (2-3 years). In Manhattan, Scribble Press has a super cool new drop-in project: lunch boxes ($30-40).
