Educational classes for new and expecting moms

The City’s new-mom community suffered a major blow when educational center Realbirth canceled all of its classes and closed up shop at the end of June. Fortunately Tribeca Pediatrics founder Dr. Michel Cohen was quick to scoop up the program’s best teachers and establish a new parent resource of his own: Tribeca Parenting.

Operating out of all Tribeca Pediatrics offices, Tribeca Parenting offers classes in Tribeca, Chelsea, Park Slope and Williamsburg. In September, it will be expanding to the Upper East Side. “The instructors are mostly from Realbirth, and are still teaching the same philosophy—basically, non-judgmental pregnancy classes, and preparing for childbirth,” says Emily Cohen, Tribeca Parenting’s manager of education.

In the offerings are vaccine lectures and breastfeeding clinics, plus parenting workshops, CPR lessons, and childbirth classes that explain various natural pain techniques. There’s also a support group called New MOM (Meeting Other Mothers) that discusses everything from sleep deprivation to babysitters.
