Holy Great Birthday Idea
Red Carpet Kids does over-the-top movie parties
It’s a bit unusual for us to feature something meant for kids ages 5 and up, but this is one idea worth bookmarking. Red Carpet Kids is, quite simply, the best birthday party concept we’ve seen. Founders Eva Shure (an Actors Studio alum) and her event-planning fiancé, Craig Saslow, thought of every detail when they converted a 5,000 square-foot UES mansion into a faux film studio and movie theater for children, outfitted with everything needed to film an original short flick and then celebrate it—celeb-style—with a movie premier party and awards ceremony.
Here’s how it works: the Red Carpet Kids staff (also actors) guides the partygoers through a simulated “wholesome Hollywood” event, starting with a VIP check-in, red carpet strut, and paparazzi photo shoot. Next, kids get gussied up for their acting debut (hair, makeup, costuming), followed by an authentic green-screen film shoot; clips are dropped into a 7-minute pre-fab movie with a superhero or western theme (pop star and princess themes are in the works). A decadent wrap party precedes the movie premier, viewed in a cushy screening room with fresh popcorn and concession-stand treats. The bash concludes with an awards ceremony (complete with mini Oscar statues and swag bags). And yes, the birthday star takes home a copy of the movie.
All-inclusive parties start at $4,500 for 15 children (well, what did you expect?), and include an email invite mailing, RSVP management, kid-friendly refreshments, cake or cupcakes from William Greenberg, and a butler-run lounge for parents (note: food and beverages for the grownups costs extra).
