Holy Awesome Toy Store
Teich Design opens a sister shop for playthings
Teich Design owners (and West Village parents) Allison Teich McGowan and JJ McGowan have expanded their eco-friendly hold on the neighborhood with the opening of Teich Toys & Books teichdesign.com. In the spirit of a vintage circus, the sweet shop is decorated in yellow stars and red-and-white stripes, with vintage train car display shelves (there’s a caboose filled with stuffed animals) and an oversized wooden toy engine that kids can play on. There’s also a train depot reserved for story time, and a space carved out for in-store puppet shows.
And we have to say, the toy selection is just as exciting: a mix of eco-considerate, classic, heirloom-quality, and handcrafted items for newborns through big kids. In place of the usual plastic junk, you'll find Eco-dough ($24), Classic blocks ($45), Manny & Simon Wood Train Push Toys ($50), and plastic-free sand toys by Zoe B. ($25) among the books, board games, art supplies, kits, and playthings.
