Cupcakes Are So 2012

Gourmet Rice Krispies treats are here

Say what you will about the evils of sugar, Rice Krispies treats are a happy place for many children of the eighties (like us). So we plan to be among the first in line when Treat House opens tomorrow. Located on the UWS, the new sweets shop will serve up fancy "crisp rice" squares that come in twelve seasonal flavors including M&M, birthday cake, cookies and cream, and Oreo. Early risers (they open at 7am) may dig the breakfast bars in varieties like oatmeal, cranberry, and cinnamon-and-raisin. And for what it's worth, the creators are local parents—Chris (chef, restaurateur, and Moomba co-founder) and Jennifer (a preschool teacher) Russell—who have attempted to make these gluten- and dairy-free squares as healthy as possible by whipping up their own marshmallows from raw cane sugar. Treats start at $2.25 apiece; ten cents from every treat sold will be donated to the Food Bank For New York City.
