All The Trimmings
Sharkey’s Cuts for Kids opens on the UES
Like the other kids’ hair salons around town, newcomer Sharkey’s Cuts for Kids has figured out that the key to winning over terrified toddlers is a cool chair. (They’ve upped the ante with a Barbie Jeep, Lightning McQueen, and Mini Cooper.) The bribes continue with a choice of DVD or x-box game during styling, plus complimentary “mini-cures” (polish only) and toy rings for girls; temporary tattoos for boys. Kids also get a balloon, lollypop, and Sharkey Dollars (good for a buck off any toy purchased in the salon at the next visit.)
A wash, cut, and blow-dry is $25 for boys; $28.50 for girls. Also on the service menu: baby’s first haircut ($35, with a lock of hair, certificate, and photo), bang trims ($8), and “Glamour Girl” birthday parties. There’s also a yearly haircut membership ($180), with which your tot can get a haircut or style any time, as many times as you want, for the entire year.
