Books and Cookies opens in Santa Monica

In a town where the term “iBabysitter” has become a part of the parenting vernacular, it’s nice to see some emphasis being placed on books—you know, the kind made with ink and paper. Books and Cookies is a new children’s bookshop-cum-bakery opening tomorrow (Tuesday, May 17th), on Main Street in Santa Monica. Founded by former preschool teacher Chudney Ross (daughter of that Diana Ross), Books and Cookies is designed to entice little ones to grab a book and a snack (NYC-based caterer Mary Giuliani is a partner), snuggle up with their grownup, and stay awhile. Plans are in the works for onsite music and baby signing classes, but exact details have yet to be announced (schedules and fees will be posted on their website soon). Opening week will be marked by free story times held on Tuesday the 17th at 9:30am, Wednesday the 18th at 3pm, and Thursday the 19th at 9:30am. Oh, and they’ll also be selling some pretty darn cute gift baskets like a potty training book collection that comes in (what else?) an actual potty.
