Toy Story

Cool new baby products from a local designer

The best thing we discovered at last month’s Plush show is Manny and Simon, a new SoCal company turning out beautifully designed step stools ($90), rockers ($200), and jumbo push toys ($32-$150)—plus a coordinating apparel line. Inspired by vintage toys, the line features animal and vehicle silhouettes in fantastic bright colors like lime and fuschia. All Manny and Simon products are made from 100 percent post-industrial recycled wood residuals and are painted with non-toxic, zero VOC paint that, to quote the company’s 24-year-old founder, “the kids could eat.” Our favorite? The horse and carriage push toy—a wooden interpretation of what Cinderella might have had—in which dolls can ride in back ($150). Keep an eye out for their second round of designs and styles, which hit shelves in August. http://www.mannyandsimon.com
