There’s Always Room For Another School
Piper Preschool to open on the Westside
Getting into preschool seems about as easy as getting drafted to the NFL. At least with the opening of Piper Preschool, there will be a handful of more spaces for future applicants. Started by Cassidy Preschool founders Crystal and Jesse Blitz, Piper is set to open in Santa Monica mid-January. The philosophy is to start tots off on an emergent curriculum, then settle them into a more traditional approach once they are into the swing of things. Programs including Parenting (6 months – 2.5 years, segmented into four-month age ranges), Transition (2 years — 2.5 years), Preschool (2.6-ish years – 4.4 years), and PreK (4.4 years) are all on the schedule. Class size will range from twelve to fifteen kids for the younger set; twenty per class in preschool. Each of the nine classrooms will maintain a five-to-one student-teacher ratio (and yes, some of those teachers were snagged from Cassidy). After school classes like cooking, science, and art will be offered, and options like early drop-off and extended hours will be available. Programs range from $1,300 for a 20-week Parenting course to $6,500 annually for Transition and Preschool to $17,000 for one year of PreK.
