The Butterflies Are Back

Flutter-filled happenings at Kidspace

Butterflies

There's a general consensus among toddlers that a butterfly sighting is exciting. So imagine the thrill when more than 500 of the winged creatures are released at once. That's the main attraction during the annual Butterfly Season at Kidspace.

Now through May 4, children can adopt a Painted Lady Caterpillar ($4) from the museum's Busy Bee Learning Store—it comes in a kit with food, a care guide, and an adoption certificate. Then, on May 3 and 4 at 2pm, head over to the museum’s Stone Hollow Amphitheater for the Grand Butterfly Release. (Kids can bring their butterflies to release, too.) On those days, themed arts and crafts (DIY wings and antennae) and educational activities round out the fun. Butterfly festivities run all day (10am to 5pm) and are free with admission—$11 for adults and children; free for babies 1 and under.
