Never Run Errands Again

A new app delivers anything you need

Sitting in traffic on an errand run can ruin a  good day. Which is why we think Postmates sounds like a godsend. Launched locally just a couple of weeks ago, the app (which is available for iOS and Android platforms) makes it possible to have anything from diapers and wipes to pharmacy prescriptions or last-minute birthday presents delivered to your home. For real.

Here's how it works: select a participating store, pick what you need from a pre-populated checklist (or create your own shopping list), then check out. A Postmate courier will fetch your goods by bike, scooter, car, or truck; the service aims to deliver within an hour.

Right now, participating stores include the big box guys (Target, Best Buy); kid-friendly neighborhood shops like Puzzle Zoo, the Acorn Store, and Traveling Tikes Baby Shop; ice cream joints (Beachy Cream, the Coolhaus Shop, Kippy’s!); and pharmacies  such as SMC Pharmacy, Brotman Medical Pharmacy, and Super Care Drugs. The initial delivery zone covers Santa Monica through Venice, Culver City, Beverly Hills, Westwood, and West Hollywood, with more areas being added soon.  Delivery fees start at $5, and are determined by the order capacity and the distance from pick-up to drop-off;  a 9 percent service fee also applies. Now, go enjoy the time you saved.
