Parent-and-me dance classes for tiny tots

A trained dancer, former ballet teacher and mother of one, Karen Hayes opened Twinkle Toes Dance Company in Highland Park last spring because she didn’t feel other studios were striking the right balance between fun and proper technique. This fall, Hayes combines whimsical play with patient instruction in Twinkle Toes’ new Parent and Me Dance class, for toddlers ages 18 months to 2. The exploratory Wednesday morning class is based on creative movement, ballet, and story-dance (stories that are acted out through music, dance, and props). Though the class is lead as a collective, the instructor offers some individual guidance to each parent-child pair, too. Hayes also serves as the artistic director of the studio’s semi-annual recitals, including a wintertime performance of The Nutcracker featuring dancers aged 2 to 15, held at Occidental College.

Registration for the Fall 2 session of Parent and Me Dance, running Oct 23-Dec 16, is now open; $115 for seven weeks.
