Hands On Mom

LA’s best non-toxic manicures

Manicures are pretty high on our list of worthy mom breaks—so long as they’re safe, clean, and non-toxic. Here are some of the healthiest nail treatment options in town.

Mobile spa service GreenBliss EcoSpa uses completely natural products for their in-home hand and foot treatments ($140 for a 75-90 minute service). There’s also Plush Beauty Bar, in West Hollywood, which focuses on non-toxic products and offers an enclosed kids’ play area with toys, books, dvd player and a baby swing. On “Whiney Fridays,” clients are offered complimentary wine from 3-6pm (manicures from $19; pedicures from $29). For a cushier spa scene, we like CHI Nail Bar & Organic Spa, in Beverly Hills. They use only organic products for all of their services, including nail treatments—tea green seed cuticle oil, anyone? (Manicures start at $25; pedicures from $35).

But perhaps the easiest thing to do is just bring your own tools and polish to your favorite local nail dive. GreenBliss EcoSpa founder Randi Ragan recommends the following non-toxic, family-run brands for expecting moms and their tots: Hopscotch Kids, SpaRitual, Zoya, and Piggy Paint—plus Tate’s The Natural Miracle Nail Polish Remover, for an effective non-acetone polish remover.
