Fresh Is Best
Toluca Lake Farmers Market family-friendly makeover
Los Angeles has no shortage of excellent farmers’ markets, but few entertain the kids while you sort through squash and persimmons. That’s why we kinda sat up and took notice when we heard Toluca Lake’s revitalized Sunday Farmers Market, re-launching this weekend, will include a kid zone with free art projects, face painting, glitter tattoos, balloon artists, and live music. Nice, right?
Neighborhood children’s store and play space, Zookies, will also be a weekly fixture—inviting parents to drop off kids to paint birdhouses or string beads while they shop the surrounding stalls. Serving the neighboring communities of Burbank, North Hollywood, Valley Village and Studio City, the revamped Sunday market has had some regular vendors such as cult-favorite Gourmet Tamales, New Era Farms, and Buenorostro Farms, but will be growing sizably to about 30 purveyors. Think everything from goat cheese and small batch coffee to locally baked bread and free-range eggs.
