Design Within Reach
LA kids’ labels to watch
We think people who take kids’ fashion very seriously are a little weird. That it’s fun to discover locally designed labels on the rise—before they’re splashed all over the pages of Us Weekly. So we caught up with Jennifer Kunski, children’s buyer at Ron Robinson’s Lifesize Kids boutique, to see which up-and-coming designers are on her radar these days.
Surprise, surprise she’s loving PaigeLauren Baby, founded by twentysomething California native Paige Lauren, who’s doing the whole relaxed-but-sweet baby thing (think Splendid) pretty darn well. We’ve been watching the brand since it launched in 2009, waiting for the rest of the country to fall in love with its ultra-soft supima cotton and great little details like fabric-lined cuffs and contrasting topstitching on seams and pockets.
Kunski also turned us on to Mini Maniacs (handmade bibs that successfully marry fun—but not cheesy—design with plastic bib functionality) and Topo Ranch, whose graphic tees are made entirely from organic cotton and very cool in a laid-back, not-trying-too-hard kind of way.
All three labels (PaigeLauren, Mini Maniacs, and Topo Ranch) are available at Ron Robinson.
