Call Girl

A new in-home pediatrician service

We like the idea of Dr. Yasangi Jayasinha’s new(ish) LA Baby Doctor service, which basically combines the usual new-parent services—lactation consulting, nutrition advice, sleep training—into one, in-home service. The 33-year-old SoCal native and practicing pediatrician will come to your home to assist you with any and all wellness-related issues, from prenatal nutrition to latching, feeding and sleeping. Here are her top five wellness tips for LA moms.

1. Minimize indoor air pollution by avoiding pressed wood products, which tend to contain higher levels of formaldehyde. Water-based wood stains emit fewer VOCs than oil-based ones.

2. Open the windows. Despite all the pollution in the LA air, it is still best to air out the home frequently to release some of the indoor air pollutants that are released from paint, carpet, furniture, etc.

3. Form good sleep habits early on by establishing a routine around the baby’s natural sleep rhythm and getting her started on early self-soothing.

4. Opt for organic food whenever possible. Consult the Environmental Working Group’s Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen list to determine which foods are low in pesticide levels, even when grown conventionally.

5. Use natural homemade cleaning products, like vinegar, lemon, baking soda, and hydrogen peroxide. They’re always safe and very effective.
