They Like To Eat What They Pick

Where to find fresh berries

It stinks that strawberries are scarce this summer (damn that late frost). But there's still plenty of berry-picking fun to be had.

Head to the berry patch at Greer Farm in Daingerfield, where for $3.25 a pound little ones can pick as many blueberries as they can carry. It's open daily from 7:30am until 5:30pm. The Blueberry Place in Nacogdoches also has lots of berries ready for picking. We like that they don't use pesticides and that they work on an honor system: just show up, pick berries, weigh them, and for $1.50 per pound, they're yours for the taking; open 7am until 7pm, seven days a week. R&C Dairy and Farmstand in Collinsville is loaded with blackberry bushes, but you'll need to call ahead to let them know you're coming. On the way out, swing through the farm stand for fresh goat milk, raw honey, and eggs.
