There’s A Baby In The Bar
Local pubs that cater to families
Having a beer when you’re out with the kids can be tricky, but it can be done. Here, a few great local beer gardens that welcome little ones.
The Lot (7530 East Grand Ave., East Dallas) specializes in locally sourced food and drinks, rounded out with live music and a corn hole toss. Kids can order food ($5 for a meal) from their own menu of fresh-pressed juices, mini burgers, grilled chicken strips, pasta, and grilled cheese before heading to an outdoor play area with toys and a giant chalkboard (pictured). They feature rotating seasonal drafts as well as local options like Deep Ellum IPA and Lakewood Hop Trapp. Chicken Scratch (2303 Pittman St., West Dallas) is known for its local hormone-free chicken and tots will love that the “kids only” menu items (fingers, fries, mac n cheese) come with popsicles. Parents will appreciate the huge outdoor dining space, casual atmosphere, and the extensive beer selection featuring Texan drafts such as Cedar Creek Scruffy’s Smoked Alt, Franconia Dunkel, and Peticolas Velvet Hammer. The best part about Katy Trail Ice House (3127 Routh St., Uptown) is that you can take squirmy toddlers for a stroll on the walking path while waiting for your Tex-Mex. There are tons of tot-friendly choices too, like a junior cheeseburger or quesadilla, not to mention a corn hole toss—and beers from Dallas, Austin, and McKinney breweries for the grownups.
