Story Time, On Steroids

Seven exciting book(ish) events for little ones

All you really need for a good story hour is a great picture book and an animated reader. But adding a little song and dance or a real live favorite character amps up the fun for everyone. Here are several upcoming events that take story time to a whole new level.

David Chicken
The beloved (and funny) singer-songwriter David McMahon, better known as David Chicken, is coming to the Bookmarks branch of the Dallas Public Library (NorthPark Center, between Nordstrom and Macy’s, 8687 North Central Expy.) to lead a sing-along and dance-fest on Saturday, March 30 at 2pm.

Community Baby Shower
The Dallas Public Library’s Central branch (1515 Young St.) is hosting a reading-themed bash for new parents (and parents-to-be) on Saturday, March 30 at 11am. There will be a “Baby Bounce Basics” session with singing, movement, and finger play, plus info on raising a reader from infancy and free board books for all.

Spot the Dog is Coming!
Spot the Dog (star of Where’s Spot and other Spot stories by Eric Hill) will be showing up for a Spot-themed story time at Barnes & Noble Lincoln Park (7700 West Northwest Hwy.) on Friday, April 5 at 10:30am.

Stories and More!
On Thursday, April 4 at 11am, Texas Discovery Gardens (3601 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Fair Park) hosts an interactive hour for the stroller set. There will be a reading, crafts, bugs to meet, and a gorgeous release of butterflies. Tickets cost $3 for children under 3 and $8 for children 3 to 11 and adults. (Members get discounted rates.)

Seussical
Hosted by the Cat in the Hat, this zany musical brings together several of Dr. Seuss’s stories, adapted for very young audiences from the Broadway version. It’s playing on Sunday, April 7 at 2:30pm at the Eisemann Center (2351 Performance Dr., Richardson). Tickets range in price from $12 to $22.

Storytime to Celebrate Eisemann Center’s Seussical, the Musical!
If going to the musical itself feels like a little too much, there’s a special all-Seuss story time on Friday, April 5 at 7pm—complete with readings and activities, at Barnes & Noble Plano (801 West 15th St.).

Meet Maisy Mouse
Maisy herself is dropping by a Maisy-themed story time at Barnes & Noble Plano (801 West 15th St.) on Friday, April 26 at 7pm; photo ops are in the offing.
