Raise A Do-Gooder

Three easy ways tots can give back

Philanthropy isn't an easy word for a toddler to say—or understand, but the holidays are a great time to introduce the concept. Here are some local, non-intimidating ways to start.
Captain Hope’s Kids is running a toy drive for tots through teens until December 6. Bring a new toy to Captain Hope’s headquarters (10555 Newkirk St., Ste. 580, North Dallas) before 5 p.m. Or, bring an unwrapped toy to the Trucks for Tots food truck rally benefitting Toys for Tots on December 7 at the Shops at Park Lane (8080 Park Ln., #770, Northeast Dallas). There will be kid-friendly food like sliders, hot dogs, and cupcakes, live music, and a visit from Santa. And, through December 9, the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Mall Parade will hold court at ten DFW shopping centers, including NorthPark and Galleria Dallas, making toy donation simple—since you’ll probably be at the mall anyway.
