Healthy fast food arrives in Dallas
Fast food would be such a convenience, if only it weren’t a total saturated-fat-and-corn-syrup fest. That’s why local owners Erin and Mike McKool opened Start, a new slow-food-served-quick joint that’s all about healthy, organic, and local ingredients whipped together in an open-style kitchen. The vast, mostly American, menu includes breakfast staples made with 100 percent whole wheat, grass-fed hamburgers, stuffed sweet potatoes, and salads (cue the made-from-scratch dressings). Inspired by the McKools’ 4-year-old son, the kids’ selection ranges from cheese pizza on whole wheat flat bread to chocolate soy milk. The contemporary Upper Greenville space is design-conscious, too, with whimsical light fixtures that kinda look like modernist mobiles and patio furniture made from recycled milk jugs. And for the days when you’re really, really in a rush, there’s a drive-thru, to boot.
