Don't Send A Lame Announcement

New trends in baby stationery

Digital schmigital. We prefer to keep our baby announcements old school, with a pretty paper proclamation. And no, old school does not have to mean old-fashioned. Dallas stationer Heather Wiese, founder of bell’INVITO, weighs in on how to make announcements feel fresh.

Skip the props. Feature a candid photo of your baby sleeping, not posed in a basket. Go for full color. Black-and-white photos can feel a bit Nineties if not done properly. Mix modern with whimsy. Combining block lettering with script is trending. Bonus points for hand-drawn calligraphy. Don't snub pink or blue. The traditional colors are making a comeback, though unexpected color combos like orange and aqua are still popular. If you're considering green, try chartreuse for a boy or lime for a girl. Raise a trunk. If you're into motifs, elephants are having their moment. Pass on the jumbo card. Thick card stock in a 4"x5" size is the way to go right now.
