You, Too, Can Be Boston Strong
The best trails for newly motivated runners
Between remembering last year's victims and rooting for all those marathoners today, we're motivated to get moving ourselves. Assuming some of you may be feeling the same way, we've scoured the city for the best undiscovered jogging trails—even if they’re not quite 26.2 miles long.
In Southie, the Castle Island loop is just over 2 miles and has wicked water views of Pleasure Bay. Cambridge’s Fresh Pond loop is more like 3 miles, and is nicely paved for easy strolling. Hit the quiet 2.5-mile Lower Neponset River Trail for glimpses of birds and wildlife. For Zen in the middle of the city, try one of many trails within the Back Bay Fens—you’ll pass the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts along the way. And for a challenge, jog up Bussey Hill at the Arnold Arboretum. The incline can be brutal—but the city views are worth it.
