The Koalas Are Coming

Aussie animals arrive at the Stone Zoo this week

On May 25, visitors from Down Under will be moving into the Stone Zoo for a summertime Aussie Adventure. This is the only zoo in New England to host eucalyptus-munching koalas; there will also be wallabies and an aviary full of kookaburras (huge birds known for their belly laughs), budgies (brightly colored parrots), cockatoos, and tawny frogmouths. Kids are encouraged to interact with the friendly birds—you can buy a seed stick and see if they’ll swoop in for a landing, or try to feed them. After hanging with the Aussies, check out the zoo’s regular assortment of jaguars, otters, and coyotes and swing by the barnyard for a nuzzle with sheep and goats. The Aussie Adventure exhibit runs until September 2. The zoo is open from 10am until 5pm on weekdays; 10am until 6pm on weekends and holidays. Admission is $14 for adults, $10 for kids, and free for anyone under 2.
