Take The Ugh Out Of Dental Visits

Where to bring the tots

If your toddler is cool with the dentist, consider yourself lucky. Very lucky. For the rest of us, the best bet is one of these three local practices that specialize in making little patients feel at ease.
The staff at Cambridge Pediatric Dental Associates (1749 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge; 617.491.1161) is incredibly warm and speedy—you can generally expect to be in and out in 30 minutes. But should you have some down time, the waiting room is loaded with baby-friendly toys. Patience is the specialty at Center for Pediatric Dental Care and Orthodontics (1560 Beacon St., Brookline; 617.731.5437), where the staff turns typical practices (counting teeth, practicing brushing) into games for little ones. They’ll even let kids play (a bit) with the dental instruments. If you have a restless toddler (and who doesn’t?), the TVs on the ceiling at Cambridge Children's Dentistry (575 Mount Auburn St., Suite 201, Cambridge; 617.383.4356) are a godsend. We also like that they use mercury-free fillings and digital radiography. They accept kids 12 months and up and just started offering appointments on Saturdays.
