Salons that cater to squirmy clients
Haircuts aren't all that popular with the toddler crowd. It helps if the salon offers distractions—and a staff that can cut with lighting speed while managing a meltdown. Here are a few of Boston's best.
Clarendon Barbers (59 Clarendon St., South End) has a Thomas the Train chair and a TV tuned to cartoons. Kids 4 and under are welcome for $25 cuts between the hours of 9am and 11am and 2:30pm and 4pm, Tuesday through Saturday. The sweet staff at La Flamme barber shop (21 Dunster St., Cambridge; 617.354.8377) doles out free lollipops, toy cars, and booster seats. Plus, cuts are a bargain at $15. At Harvard Square’s Pyara Spa & Salon (104 Mt. Auburn St., Cambridge), toddler cuts cost $45 and come with Endangered Species chocolate, a pile of Legos, and lots of crayons. For a special occasion, try the mom-owned James Joseph Salon at the W Boston (100 Stuart St., Theater District); ask for Melissa or Kathy, known for their lovely chair-side manner ($55).
