Get Smart About Natural Baby Remedies

Herbstalk offers tips for treating baby ailments sans chemicals

EarthDay

Herbstalk is coming to Somerville’s Center for Arts at the Armory on June 8 and 9. The symposium is focused on holistic health, with a notable emphasis on babies and children. On June 8, naturopathic physician Dr. Katie Stage talks about how to treat common babyhood sicknesses like colic, pinkeye, and teething pain. (Did you know vanilla essence can soothe painful gums?) On June 9, there’s a seminar about eating well while pregnant, using herbs that help balance hormones and aid in nutrition. There’s also a class on whole-food baby diets designed to fortify little immune systems and help with digestion. An on-site marketplace will feature local organic vendors like Concord’s Debra’s Natural Gourmet, which sells organic pre-prepared meals, and Cambridge Naturals, known for its line of all-natural baby care products. All-access tickets for both days are $20 in advance, or $30 at the door. A one-day all-access ticket is $15 at the door. Community admission (which includes limited access to classes) for one day is $5. Kids under 12 are admitted free.
