Face Time With Sharks

The New England Aquarium soups up its top attraction

Sharks are so cool. From a distance. The newly renovated $17.8 million Great Ocean Tank at the New England Aquarium has been totally transformed with 52 floor-to-ceiling viewing windows, an enormous authentic Caribbean coral reef, and more than 2,000 sea residents. Tots can get a super-close look at bonnethead and blacknose sharks, barracudas, stingrays, and of course Myrtle, the 550-pound green sea turtle who's lived at the aquarium since 1970. There’s a reflective ceiling dome at the top of the tank, for wraparound viewing, plus new interactive educational elements and, possibly the best new addition, stroller ramps.
The aquarium is open Sundays to Thursdays from 9am to 6pm; Fridays and Saturdays from 9am to 7pm. Tickets are free for kids under 3; $15.95 for ages 3 to 11; and $22.95 for adults.
