3 kid-friendly hotel pools—no overnight stay required

A day at the pool requires less packing than a trip to the beach—and there’s no sand in the car on the way home. Here are three chill spots for cooling off with a little one. (Just be sure to check with the hotel about availability, and go early: these pools tend to fill up fast.)

The Colonnade Hotel
Near Copley Square, the outdoor rooftop pool at the Colonnade Hotel (120 Huntington Ave., Boston) is open to the public (and free for kids three and under) on weekdays. (It's strictly for hotel guests on weekends.) Admission for adults costs $50 for a full day and $25 after 3pm. Arm “floaties” are complimentary; they sell baby-friendly sunscreen and kids’ sunglasses; and there's a lifeguard on duty. There’s also a stroller parking area on the pool’s west side deck, plus a pool menu with eats like Pizzeria Regina pizza, chicken tenders, and fresh fruit. Open to the public from 8am – 8pm, Monday through Friday.

The Revere Hotel
Through the end of June, admission to the rooftop pool at the Revere Hotel (200 Stuart St., Boston) is free for adults and kids from 4pm to 10:30pm (as long as you dine while there). There's no lifeguard on duty, but they have healthy, kid-friendly menu items like grilled pita bread with hummus, guacamole, and chilled tropical fruit with yogurt dipping sauce. In July, hours extend to 11am–11pm, and the cost of admission is $30 per person.

Hotel Indigo
On the outskirts of the city, Newton’s Hotel Indigo (399 Grove St., Newton) hosts “family days” on Mondays and Tuesdays, when kids under five eat and swim at their outdoor pool for free. Admission for adults is $25 (cash only), and admission for kids is $25 from Wednesday to Friday. (It's best to stick to the kid-friendly days, though, because the vibe gets clubbier as the week progresses, and on weekends it's adults-only.) There's a lifeguard on duty, and the “Sand Bokx” menu features hot dogs, hamburgers, and mac and cheese. There’s also a lemonade stand with fresh-squeezed lemonade. The pool is open from 11am – 5pm, Sunday through Friday. But again, go on Monday or Tuesday with a kid.
