Trendspotting: Fall 2012

Lil’ Swanky on the five biggest trendlets of the season

As the owner and brilliant buyer behind Lil’ Swanky, Emily Hornstein-Quagliani knows a thing or two about kids’ fashion. We asked her to get us up to speed on the coolest trends for fall—and to give us a sneak peek at her personal faves.

Classic with a pop of color. Appaman’s Mini Professor blazer ($92) in brown herringbone or black tweed serves up a dose of classic with a city spin. Pair it with a red Appaman Zip Up Hoodie ($54) for the perfect pop of autumn color. Or try this chic classic trench ($176) from UK label That’s Not Fair, with a hot pink Appaman Emma knit hat ($30).

Aztec anything. A spillover from summer, Aztec prints are forging on. We love the Puff Sleeve Popover ($56) by Anthem of the Ants and this wrap sweater ($58) by Peek . . . .

Layers. This season the layered look is made effortless with Scotch & Soda’s Shrunk Pullover with Innershirt ($96) and Tea Collection’s layer dresses ($35), in three cute combos.

Colored denim. For fall, Joe’s Jeans offers skinnys ($49) in bright red, true green, and royal blue.

Glitter shoes. Pediped has the cutest lavender sequin shoes ($32) for the wee set; crewcuts’ Glitter Macalister boots ($118) come in five colors, including this fabulous multi version.
