The latest trends in birth announcements
Ceci Johnson has babies on the brain. The talented stationer behind Ceci New York (and the designer of StrollerTraffic’s own logo) is expecting her first child in September—right around the same time her Ceci Baby Line for Tiny Prints debuts, with more than 20 designs including announcements, thank you notes, and shower invitations. We asked Ceci to catch us up on the latest announcement trends; here’s what she says is hot right now.
Non-traditional pairings: Couple one traditional color (pink or blue, depending) with an unexpected color like orange or lime.
Muted, antique-inspired hues: “Think vintage map colors,” Johnson says, such as a dusty orange mixed with khaki and a robins-egg blue for boys, or blush pink or dusty rose paired with pewter and a hint of yellow for girls.
Patterns: Feature plaid or argyle for a boy; a floral damask print for a girl.
Fresh fonts: For girls, mix a classic block font with a beautiful flirty script—nothing too formal, though, because as Johnson says, “It’s a baby announcement, not a wedding invite.” For boys, try an all-lowercase vintage typewriter font.
Thinking outside the flat card: Consider a circle invitation, or at the extreme luxe end of things, a booklet-style announcement.
Custom stamps: Personalize your postage stamps with photos or complementing graphics.
Matchy-matchy designs: Coordinate your announcement with your nursery décor to create a frame-worthy keepsake.
